The Mr. Roboto Project was graced with an amazing floor show on the evening of June nineteenth, having three diverse but incredible bands fill the bill! Starting off the show was Pittsburgh emo legends Short Fictions, followed by the kickass and whacky For Your Health, with the masterfully enthralling Awakebutstillinbed closing out the night.
The overall crowd was very chill and excited for the show, attendance being nearly sold out with some concert goers even standing on the empty stage. Each band sounded very unique and clean for a DIY floor show at Roboto! All members made it known they were completely ecstatic to be there with both energy and performance, showing all the old heads that an 8PM start time is just as good as a 5PM.Ā
To kick off the show were local boys, Short Fictions. And boy did the crowd show them love. Right as soon as the first song kicked in, fans immediately began moshing and dancing, keeping the trend going the entire half hour Short Fictions played! The band themselves had an amazing performance throughout the set, earning the appropriate crowd reaction with their jammy and movable sound. And don't you dare forget the trombone, which added just another awesome layer to the band's fun and energetic performance. Short Fictions really made it known why they are the biggest Pittsburgh emo band, rocking the roof off Roboto as soon as the show started.
And speaking of rock, For Your Health being the heaviest band on the bill absolutely smashed their set! They only played five minutes longer than Short Fictions but I would argue that they could've gone longer. Regardless of set length, every minute was absolutely worth it! The crowd definitely agreed as well, being way more rowdy than during Short Fictions. I can't say I'm too surprised as From Your Health can be very reminiscent of The Callous Daoboys in a lot of their songs. This being very evident in the high-pitched yet angelic screams from SimĀ switching back and forth, or dueting, with cleans accompanying brutal instrumentals then immediately switching it to groovy, chaotic, danceable breaks in between! To say they were my favorite of the night would be an understatement, but I am biased to the genre, whatever it actually is considered. Definitely a smart move to have them as direct support as their set had the crowd bouncing off the walls the whole time in preparation for Awakebutstillinbed!
To cap off the high energetic, vibed out night is Bay Area headliners, Awakebutstillinbed! A definite tone shift compared to their direct support but in a very good way, keeping the energy up but with a more chill, emotional approach. A good catch your breath when you need to set but they also mix it up with high intense jam moments just when you think it's time to relax! The MVP of the night would definitely be this band, giving their absolute all the entirety of the set. The lead singer was awe-inspiring the entire time with her voice and vocal delivery of each song. You could really feel the heart, sweat, and emotion the band put into each song and their live performance! Joining them up on stage for adapt was From Your Health's very own powerhouse screamer, Sim, giving fans an amazing demonstration of female fronted musical talent.
