We have had the chance to sit down with REBELMATIC, a New York based hardcore fusion band. Their albumĀ Black Hole Eats the TornadoĀ will be released on April 11 on Say-10 Records (Will Wood, Dog Park Dissidents).Ā Their unique blend of hardcore punk, funk and soul offers a unique perspective to songwriting, as seen in recent single "Help."

Whether you've been shouting along in sweaty clubs over the years or you're just now tuning in, Rebelmatic is a name you’ll keep hearing — and with good reason.

Is it their ability to command respect across the lines of hardcore and hip hop? That NYC lineage runs deep, rooted in both scenes.

Maybe you saw them tear it up at Afro-Punk, or caught their name on this year's Camp Punksylvania bill. Or maybe it was a co-sign from legends like Angelo Moore of Fishbone or HR of Bad Brains. They’ve also been featured in Black Punk Now by James Spooner and Chris L. Terry, and in the Doc Martens film DIYNYC.

No matter how you discover them, one thing is clear: Rebelmatic is unforgettable.

I had the opportunity to speak to Creature, their vocalist.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music? What bands/artists inspire you the most?

"We like to describe our sound as ā€œJames Brown in a mosh pit.ā€ It's hardcore punk with soul — a gritty, groove-heavy, emotionally raw experience. You can mosh to it, but you’ll also feel it in your chest and your gut. It’s visceral — sweat, spirit, and soul all in one."

What message do you want to bring to the listener?

"The lyrics on our album explore a wide range of themes—love and loss, resilience and celebration, frustration and mental health, Black history, survival, navigating the world, and the full spectrum of joy and pain.We hope our music and sound resonate with people—speaking to their struggles, their strength, and everything in between."

Ā Where can our viewers find you and stay up to date with future releases?Ā
