Sister Wife Sex Strike curated an energetic, enthused crowd with their folk-punk hits, touching on topics of queerness, politics, romance, and liberation. This duo's got nothing but spunk and passion for their performance, artistically using it as an emotional outlet. Depression, anger, fear, dread---they cover it all. The venue exploded with the thunderous, rhythmic stomping of dozens of feet as Sister Pigeon and Sister Moth took the stage. Heavy kicks from the seemingly homemade, suitcase-style foot drum ensured everyone stayed on beat, no matter how chaotic the dancefloor became. Closing with a cover of the infamously angsty "Brave as a Noun" by folk-punk band AJJ, their set was elaborate, fun, and engaging for first time listeners or long time fans.
Continuing with a southern drawl, Clover-Lynn & The Hellfires brought bluegrass tunes to Pittsburgh, yielding nothing but their banjo as their vocals and interpersonal jabs with the crowd created an intimate, uniting song and dance the likes of which I've not seen in years. The solo artist's lack of backup didn't affect her quality, continuously showing her mastership over her instrument and vocal techniques. Embracing both her southern routes and queer identity, her performance was a truly remarkable, unforgettable show.
Frog Legs, our lovely opener of the night, didn't shy away from the spotlight. Commanding the stage, the duo's quick witted comedic beats threw the momentum of their performance forward, inviting the crowd to open the room, to which the crowd responded with an outburst of dancing, hootin', and hollerin'. A stage presence for the ages, you don't want to miss any of these charming and unique acts the next time they're in your city!
