Hello everybody, and welcome back to the No Skip Show! Today we have some absolutely stunning news to catch you up on! For this news you’ll be hearing thoughts from Dylan on the songs and Basement themselves as well as receiving the main info about the announcement and band from Travis, so lets get to it!

Basement are widely considered one of the most influential and impactful emo grunge bands of all time. Whether you’ve been a day 1 fan from the release of their debut full length, 2011’s I Wish I Could Stay Here or prior, or you discovered the band due to TikTok virality in the 2020s, millions can hear the unique blend of emo, grunge, shoegaze, melodic hardcore and alt rock that delivers sonic soundscapes of emotion. The band was last seen releasing music with 2018’s Beside Myself via label Fueled by Ramen, and the single Are You The One, but then went quiet after 2019. In the early 2020s, the band grew to new heights, escaping the emogaze wave of the 2010s and becoming one of the biggest emo bands in history, alongside Philadelphia emo grunge band Superheaven at almost the same time, and tripling their monthly listeners overnight. This sparked a reunion for Basement, and a US tour in 2024, which I luckily had a chance to catch in Washington DC at the sold out 9:30 Club, the first time I had seen them since their co-headliner with Citizen in 2018, which played the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh (RIP). Prior to this reunion tour, the band had announced that they had re-signed with Run For Cover Records, the label that showcased most of their albums before they went to Fueled by Ramen for Beside Myself. Now with new music on the way after years of anticipation, we hear the band showcased in a modern, more free thinking music industry. How does it pan out?

Dylan here, so I’m relatively new to the Basement hype and band themselves, although Travis was sure to fill me in on everything and introduce me to them a couple years ago. Since then I have been a huge fan, they’re the British version of what I listened to on the radio when I was younger! However, they do stand out from others in their respective eras, being active now four separate times including the recent reunion, the span is roughly from 09 to now with the sporadic few year hiatus’ in between. Everything they have put out so far you can say has continuously hit and aged like fine wine, especially the famous Colourmeinkindness. In my humble opinion I would say they are the British equivalent to Nirvana or even Superheaven for a more peer comparison, but smaller and with a few obvious differences, but the influence is there. If you love some straightforward alternative rock, grunge, with some post-hardcore and emo twang then Basement is right up your alley right along with me! Now, to get into the meat and potatoes of today's news now that you know how serious this band and announcement is!

Basement blew everyone's mind by dropping two new singles just over a week ago! The band delivered both of their unique sounds incredibly on the two singles, WIRED and Broken by Design. WIRED gives a grungy unapologetic track with tons of repetition and punk rock infused guitar, seemingly ready to be a live show opener, while Broken by Design leans more into dream pop, shoegaze and 90s alternative, primarily focusing on the vocals and simplistic yet hypnotic groove. If this is just a taste of what’s to come, this could be an AOTY contender based on hype alone. What did you guys think of the new singles, are you as excited as we are for new Basement music?? As always, thanks for reading and happy listening!
